The Apollonian and the Dionysian' emerged as a captivating study on 'Liminal Spaces,' which I conducted together with Melanie Garland. In my five years as a photographer in a commercial studio, I had countless people in front of my lens – thousands of faces captured for sober purposes: passport photos, biometric images, mere technical reproductions for machine identification.
Our light installation floats mysteriously in space: a hovering light box houses 13 portraits, from which we have completely removed the faces of those depicted. The disturbing question at the center of our work: Would the people whose identity we have erased still recognize themselves in these images? Where does registration end and where does the self begin?"
